This doc explains one of the methods we recommend for sharing secrets safely, with the caveat that the safety is neither absolute nor guaranteed.
Don’t forget that sharing secrets is dangerous even if sometimes necessary.
Your Password Manager #
Many password managers provide mechanisms for sharing secrets in a secure and controlled manner. Those that have some sharing capabilities try to make it intuitive but it doesn’t always work out that way. If you need help figuring out how to share a secret with your particular password manager, reach out and we’ll try to help.
If you use a password manager that can share secrets, use it to selectively share with us only the secrets we need. You don’t have to and should never share all your secrets, especially not with a third-party service provider!
Some popular and highly-regarded password managers include LastPass, RoboForm, and our current favorite, Bitwarden. Password managers are central to our day-to-day operations so we keep tabs on the market and occasionally reevaluate our choices because of the rapidly evolving security landscape and constantly emerging threats.
