This guide explains what happens when you purchase domains through us and explains some of the consequences. It also answers some of the most common questions we’ve received.
Domain Ownership #
Boundless Zone is neither a domain registrar nor a domain reseller. When you buy a domain through us, we purchase the domain on your behalf from an accredited registrar and manage it for you.
The domain is technically registered to us but belongs to you for the duration of your subscription. We add your personal info to the “owner contact” of the domain, one of the four contacts listed for every domain.
Please note that we offer the option to purchase domains because many customers find domain registration and management overwhelming. If you’re comfortable purchasing a domain on your own, we recommend you do so. You can later grant us access so we can manage the domain records while you retain ownership.
Refunds #
Once we purchase the domain on your behalf, the domain is non-refundable.
Because we are subject to the refund policies of the registrars we use, we can only offer exceptions when they do, and they rarely do.
Availability #
We might not be able to purchase the requested domain on your behalf. This can happen for various reasons, including (but not limited to):
- The domain has already been acquired by somebody else.
- The domain is a premium domain and unavailable at the normal rate.
- The domain name is invalid (e.g., too long, has characters that aren’t allowed, and so forth).
We reserve the right to reject domain purchases for any reason.
If we cannot or decide not to purchase the domain you requested, for whatever reason, we will offer you these options:
- A refund, which we will honor promptly
- The option to get a different domain with the same terms as the original requested domain (e.g., TLD, Years, and pricing)
If you want to get a domain that has different terms (such as a different TLD extension), you’ll have to refund the original purchase and initiate a new purchase in its stead.
Pricing #
The pricing for domains may change. Registrars occasionally update their prices and this is entirely outside our control.
If our upstream prices change (up or down), we may ask you to update your subscription as well. We reserve the right not to renew the domain if you do not update your subscription.
WHOIS Privacy Protection #
We enable WHOIS privacy protection whenever possible.
We prefer to use registrars that offer privacy protection for free but some registrars do charge for it. We include those fees in our rates.
Note that there are registrars, particularly a number of national registrars, that do not allow privacy protection.
Tranferring Domains #
If you wish to transfer your domain to another registrar, you may do so at any time. Transfers will usually incur an additional cost, which is paid by you directly to the new registrar, and over which we have no control.
Transferring domains also requires additional steps on our part (e.g., to unlock the domain), which we will perform as quickly as we can. The domain transfer process can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, possibly longer is some rare cases. Most of this process is also beyond our control but we will do what we can to speed it along.
Additional Terms #
We are subject to the terms defined by ICANN (the international organization that governs domains), the individual registrars we use to register domains, and other laws and regulations. These terms can change without notice.
